ID: a45047ca-382c-4b88-8c07-fee6db6ac2ac Status: ready Theme: magical

Somewhere along the canal path, a baby giraffe named Pappee has wandered away — and his toys are scattered all along the way. His mama, Girrapee, can see for miles and miles, but she cannot see what's right beneath her nose. She needs someone small and brave and very good at looking. She needs Henry. Together, they'll follow a little map, collect Pappee's scattered treasures, and find one very lost baby giraffe — who just needs to come home.

A mama who can see for miles — and a little one who is very, very lost.

Along the canal path, where the reeds grow tall and the water hums a quiet little song, there lives a mama giraffe named Girrapee. She is the tallest thing for miles and miles. She can see the church tower far away. She can see where the river bends. She can see all the way to the very edge of the world.

And do you see that little daisy tucked behind her ear? That yellow, soft, slightly crumpled daisy? Pappee picked it for her this very morning. He had to stretch up on the very tips of his hooves to reach — and he wobbled — but he did it. Girrapee bent her very long neck all the way down to the ground and whispered, "It is the finest daisy I have ever seen."

story (position 3) M1.T2.c4
Pappee was a very small giraffe with very big eyes and a very busy nose that was always pointed toward something interesting. A frog. A feather. A particularly shiny pebble. He never wandered far — or so Girrapee always told herself. He carried his favourite toys tucked under his chin wherever he went: a little blue rabbit, a red ball, and a yellow wooden duck.

Girrapee loved the mornings most. She would stand very still and watch the whole wide world spread out before her — the fields, the hedges, the slow brown canal. And she would listen to Pappee playing somewhere close below. She was not worried. She could see everything. Or — well. Almost everything.

You see, Girrapee had a little secret that she did not talk about much. She could see the horizon perfectly. But close things — things right there at her feet — were too far down, too small, too hidden in the grass and shadows. It was the one thing her very long neck made very hard. The ground was just so terribly far away.

Then came the moment when the morning went quiet. No small hooves. No happy snuffling. No sound of a little blue rabbit being dragged along the path. Girrapee turned her head north. She turned her head south. She looked at the church tower and the river bend and the very edge of the sky. No Pappee. The canal path was still. And there, lying alone in the reeds — his little red ball.

Girrapee bent her very long neck all the way down to the ground — slowly, slowly — until her nose nearly touched the path. She whispered to the reeds, to the water, to anyone who might hear: "Pappee? My Pappee?" But the only answer was the canal, humming its quiet little song. And the daisy behind her ear trembled, just a little.

She could see for miles and miles. She could see all the way to the edge of the world. But she could not see what was small and close and hiding in the grass. She could not see the little path Pappee had taken. She could not follow what she could not find. And somewhere, along the canal, a very small giraffe was waiting.
